The steering is very loose in our old JD 420 with the power steering pump on the fan belt. Steering wheel to pump is tight, and the tie rods are tight. So, the half turn of slop is in the steering column/power steering unit someplace. I have looked for an eccentric or screw adjustment but find nothing. My I&T manual is of no help.

You need to go to jdparts.com and look at the parts file to see what you have first. Looks like there's a few different types. The pictures will show you the possibilities.
