My friend has a T-9 dozer. Our problem is the starter. The nose cone is way too short and it's eating up the ring gear. He also has a T-6 dozer that also needs a different starter. Does anyone have info on what kind of starters for these dozers.

First, ask yourself why you think the starter is the problem. Are the starters the correct model for the machine? Look at the data plate on the starter and compare that to the starter part number for the specific machine. Inspect the starter and ring gear for damage. It's difficult to believe you have "wrong" starters. These problems are ususally caused by damaged or worn parts or tired starter motors or drives.

The starter that’s on the t9 only engages about 1/3 of the ring gear be cause the nose cone is way to short.also taking out all but one washer is little help. The ring gear is now getting chewed up.also the motor it self is about 1 in bigger in diameter .the name plate is so bad all we can make out is 1108. I tried a starter off a t6 and it bolts up and the nose cone is a little longer but not long enough to use up all of the ring gear. Yesterdays tractor couldn’t fine anything so they said to try here.
