444 Fuel Shutoff Solenoid

Good morning, all. Well, I'm back at it again. I've been digging through the mess on the tractor, and am slowly putting pieces of the puzzle together. Lucky me; most of everything is on the tractor, just wasn't fixed once they quit working. One issue that I cannot seem to figure out is the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid. I've looked at parts books, ops manual, Google, youtube, and searched forums to no avail. I have a Marvel Shebler carb, but cannot find the model number on it where it is supposed to be (below the little button in the casting). Through research, I believe it to be a TSX 896, but not 100% sure. It has the studs on the carburetor and not the induction flange, if that matters. Anyway, I found some loose wiring near the alternator with green and green/black wires going into a plug. However, there is no Fuel Solenoid anywhere to be found, nor can I find anything that has been plugged on the carburetor. Would it be possible that the wiring was there but not used one the tractor was built, or am I not looking in the right place? Does anyone have a picture of where the solenoid would go? I've found 2 different P/Ns for them: 389679R95 & 71358C92. I know having the carb M/N would be extremely helpful, but I can't seem to locate that, either. The tractor is a 1968 with the C-153 engine.

Fuel solenoids of that type typically have only one wire, so that doesn't explain your two-wire connector.

In general, the solenoids (when used) replaced the adjustable "load" needle valve assembly in the carburetor.

I don't know if yours would have had one when new, if it did it may have failed and someone tossed it and replaced it with a manually-operated adjustable "load" needle.

Also, gas C-153 seems a bit odd, official CIH parts website doesn't list a gas version of the "444", Tractordata says there's a gas version using a BD-144 engine.

Here's a photo of a fuel shutoff solenoid on a "424" tractor...

Bob, thanks for the quick reply and picture! I'm mainly going off of the Parts manual for the engine model, so I could be wrong. I'm not near the tractor, but do have the books with me, and as luck would have it, I was looking for the engine model designation and came across Figure 11 of the ops manual. It showed a picture identical to what you posted! It has a statement in there about if the solenoid was removed to make sure that the plug is sealed, etc. I'm guessing that is what has happened in my case. As for the wiring, its a green & green/black going into 1 female spade connector. I do have a little dieseling on shut down, but now I know what I need to do if its much of a nuisance. Thanks a bunch for helping out, and I hope this helps out someone else in the future.

P.S.... I was looking at a wiring diagram for another IH utility and it showed a 2-wire plug with a Green/Black and a Green/Blue wire as the wires to the optional horn.

Pretty close to the wire colors you are seeing.

The wiring is quite faded. I will look again when I get home. The glue wire looks green, so anything is possible. Thanks!
