    A few old gas cans

I have a few now, and I’ll continue to add them as I find them. Not much of a collection, but there is room to grow. Dave

    Old Soldering Irons and Ingots

Definitely lead. That little tool box takes two hands to lift. What kind of dangerous exposure did guys get from melting lead like that? Dave

Can I test trailer brakes with battery

FIL’s car hauler has drum brakes that never worked. Can I simply touch the leads to a 12 volt battery to see if the actuators work? Or would that send damaging amperage through the system? Dave

    What is this?

Looks like a burner of some sort. Threads where a jar screws on. From my FIL’s shop. He was a furnace man in the 60’s, then sheet metal for the rest of his career. Dave

    Silver Kings, Avery, M/M

I’ve driven past these a few times over the past couple weeks. I do not know anything about the tractors or the seller. I just thought collectors of the lesser known manufacturers might want to know. Otsego, MI Dave

    Crazy sub panel voltage Resolved

I did some continuity testing on the faulty circuit today and traced the problem to a receptacle that shop lights plug into. Once I pulled the recep out of the gang box, the fault went away. It appears the problem was under the strain relief. When I installed it, I crushed the black and...

Crazy wrong voltage at sub panel! What’s happening?

I installed this sub panel in the shop about three years ago and have never had any issues. The other day, I plugged in a new RV, and LEDs on the cable indicated reversed polarity. (It is a dedicated 30 amp circuit with a proper RV recep.) I checked the receptacle, and sure enough, the neutral...

    1923 telephone ringer

A relative owned a small telephone company in Gobles, MI way back. There was an accumulation of odd phone parts left over. This one has October 1923 stamped in faded ink on the battery under the clip. Dave

    Thoughts on recreation fuel

Is it a good idea or is it a bad idea to use recreation fuel in these old tractors (1943-54)? Is there harm or benefit from the additives in modern gasoline? Dave

Congratulations on your new lift! I have been looking at them too and will probably buy one in the spring. What company did you buy yours from? Dave

Why does this muffler have two outlets?

Thanks to Majorman for all interesting pictures. Now I wondered about the muffler on this one. Is that a drain pipe facing the ground? Is there a baffle or cap on the inside that covers the tube leading into the manifold? I thought it might be a rain-proof design. Dave

Nice photo of Fordson Super Major

According to the website: The tractor in the photograph was a Fordson Super Major. If you look closely at the grill, youll see it reads D H Goblin, as in the de Havilland Goblin jet engine. Dave

    Dunham Water Weight rollerslightly modified

Was in the barn when we bought the place 25 years ago. No information about it. Looks like it was used quite a bit after the drum was replaced with the concrete. Dave

Wondering about the D seat placement

J Hamilton had a nice picture of a J Deere D on tractor talk. It got me wondering: Why did the D have the operators seat hanging way off the back? What was it about the build that kept the driver from sitting between the rear wheels? Was there any functional advantage? Sort of like IH...

    Reply to Used Red

I havent gotten back to the M this week to check for water. Mostly because winter came back this week. Temps in the teens and twenties. The bell is loose and the spring is active and strong. The tractor has been stored inside for the 23 years that I have had it. Ill let you know what I find...

    43 M stuck in 5th gear

Drove the old M down the road to enjoy the sunshine. I turned around a mile away and came back. When I got into the barnyard, it is stuck in fifth gear. The shifter moves freely in and out of the other gears, but it is always in fifth. Including when its in neutral. Where do I begin? Dave
