John Deere 450

Looking at getting a John Deere 450 drill. It's a double disc without the small seed box. Could you plant alfalfa in the large seed box?

If you tied the openers up out of the ground it would drop the seed where you want it just would be very hard to calibrate it to sow an accurate amount and as fine and expensive as alfalfa is I would not want to experiment to much with it. If sown on with a horn then spiked in with a spike tooth drag it would be about perfect. A horn is a bag with a strap around your neck and on one side a pipe with a regulator you can adjust the rate with. They will sow about 20 feet wide by swinging the pipe across infront of you keeping the end up ward some. To me that is less work than trying to keep turning that crank on those seeders. Otherwise you should get a drill with the seeder on the box.
