Adams Grader

I bought an old Adams grader from the mid 30's. It has factory duals, and been converted to hydraulic. We've replaced the engine with an identical one from a W4 .
The plate showing the serial number has been painted over so badly I can't identify the serial or model number. Any idea how I can identify and get more information?

Maybe try some lacquer thinner on the serial number plate and take the paint off.
