    New world record soybean yield

I just read on AgWeb that a young farmer in Georgia just set a new yield record for soybeans. 206 bushels per acre! Hard to believe. He planted only 85000 seeds per acre, irrigated, threw the kitchen sink at them. The 10 acre plot was within a 60 acre field that ran over 100 bu/acre. The beans...

sad news for all you dog lovers

Just saw on Agtalk web forum where Bill on the farm ( who used to frequently post on this site) had to put down his canine friend, Wrigley. 14 year old. A lot of us on here used to enjoy Bill's posts and pictures of Wrigley and the farm operations when Bill was a regular contributor.

    BIG CORN YIELDS

The National Corn Growers Association released the results of the annual yield contest....top 3 finishers in 9 categories. David Hula of Virginia once again showed the crop's potential with a yield of over 600 bushels per acre. A relative of his was in the high 5s, an entry or 2 started with a...

    188 diesel, fuel shut off

430 diesel. Recently, when in use, the fuel shutoff knob works itself out to where it begins to shutdown engine. Push it back in to run position, everything is normal. Takes it about 4 or 5 minutes to work itself out to where engine is affected (roughly 1.25 inch of rod exposed). Parts book...

Over on Agtalk (cafe) forum there is a photograph of a self propelled Case cornpicker. I was not aware that Case had ever built such a beast! They must be few and far between.

    farm tragedy, silo gas

I was just reading on another forum of a farm tragedy in Minnesota. A boy, his father and an uncle were overcome with toxic fumes inside a silo this past weekend. Both adults are dead and the young lad is fighting for his life in a Twin Cities hospital. A terrible tragedy for all concerned...

    Impressive! 616 bushels/acre

Was looking at the 2019 National Corn Growers contest results last night. David Hula of Virginia set a new world record with a yield of 616 by/A. All I can say is "Wow!" It would be interesting to walk in that field and the 190 bushel/A soybean field of Randy Dowdy. Would be fun to operate the...

    hot corn

I just read on Agtalk that a huge flat storage building containing between 3 and 5 million bushels of corn is burning in Walnut Grove, Mn. Hopefully it can be controlled before it all is destroyed. That would be a lot of BTUs (and$$$) up in smoke!

    case-detroit highway mower

Further to Case Nutty's post on his VAI with the mounted highway mower, I dug out a Case parts book, dated September 1940. It depicts parts for the #14 and#16 mowers and mounts for various Case tractors of that era.(RI,DI,SI,VI and VAI). These two models appear to be different than Tom's...

    corn planting depth

Last week, I attended a crop information meeting. One of the speakers said that new research coming out of the Midwest universities is showing a yield advantage to planting corn 3" deep as opposed to the traditional 2" depth. He claimed it results in more even emergence due to less temperature...

    wheel weight

My daughter was helping me mount the wheel weights back on the 732 today when she asked how much they weigh. I really didn't know, other than they are dang heavy. I looked in my parts books for both the 100 series and 30 series but did not find the weights in question. Case casting number is...

heh Brain Trust; hot rivets or weld

I am replacing the rear rims on a recently acquired 732 Case.( yes, 52 years of calcium did them in!) The rims are 16x30 deep well type. There are 2 drive lugs inch and a half x 2" long, 1/2 thick that fit into a notch in the cast centers to prevent the rim from slipping on the wheel should the...

    something different 7721 w/444 cornhead

I went by a Mennonite farm yesterday that had a 7721 with a 4 row wide cornhead on it. It had 6000 series MFD, open station JD hooked on the front. No one was around and I didn't think to take a picture. The farm was hilly. In good going it might work alright, but I would think it wouldn't take...

OT '96 F150 door jamb switch

Can anyone tell me what's involved in replacing the driver's door jamb swith on a '96 Fi50? If...

What's the secret? gauge wheel bearing

I noticed when cleaning and putting the planter(White 6100) away this year, that one of the gauge wheels had quite a wobble to it. I assumed it was a bad bearing and picked one up. I find when installing it, I am still getting a wobble. This is a bearing affixed to a stub shaft that clamps...

O.T. ideas on cleaning up black walnuts from lawn

I didn't want to hijack the post below about husking black walnuts, but I am curious if any of you have an easy way to get the black walnuts off the lawn. We have 7 or 8 mature trees in the yard that yield a lot of nuts.....way too many to run the lawn mower over. When the kids were younger I...
