    Brake anchor pin & collar

Hello friends, I’m trying to replace brake shoes on my 971 and I’m fighting the anchor pin & collar. I assume 40-60 years has pretty well rusted the collar on the pin. I’ve removed the clip and given them some healthy raps with my 3# hammer and gave a good soaking with penetrant yesterday. I...

Need a few ignition parts and some progress

From pomester’s pics, it looks like just the last bearing and shim need to come off? any part #s for the oil seal, o-ring or paper gasket? Thanks again.

Need a few ignition parts and some progress

Alright then, thanks for the help. Will the short lower shaft slide out when the slotted nut is removed from the back side? I can see the bearings staying in place, but what about the washers? My keyed ignition is getting quite temperamental, can it be cleaned and improved? replacements at TSC...

Need a few ignition parts and some progress

No, I think it is just the angle of the picture. The rear axle housing drops straight down. Chris

Need a few ignition parts and some progress

Thanks Btz, I’m putting the wheel weights back on, so I’m looking for the lug/stud combo in my pic. Thank you.

Need a few ignition parts and some progress

Thanks pomester, I looked and I’m pretty sure it was welded as well. These were moved onto these 11” rims many years ago. I will check again before cutting, thanks. I’ll get the drum off and take a look. I assume there is a plate holding the axle in and will likely try to replace the lug bolt...

Need a few ignition parts and some progress

Good evening ftiends, Some progress today. I got the first rear wheel off and the center free and spun up. I need to cut the stop off the get it out ( I see a stop on the other side of this wheel as well). Still a lot of fluid, darn heavy! I need a lug bolt and possibly another lug nut/stud...

    New Tires

Alan Harry (Awhtx) ?is/was? a super fella, I got to meet him for lunch years and years ago as he traveled through Missouri. I’m still a relative pup and greatly appreciate all the help from this board. souNdguy (Chris) would start and finish a quick restoration in the same time it took me to get...

    New Tires

Thanks fellas, I’ll let you know how it goes, probably a couple of weeks yet. I’ve not been on the board in a bit, I’m sure we’ve lost some other valuable members in my absence. I know Larry (NCKS) passed quite a few years ago (he was my SOS go to), not sure about some of the other “big” guys...

    New Tires

Thanks showcrop! I was wondering if it would be easier to spin the center into the new wheel? Can I damage anything fighting the old nuts? I know you’ve done some of these, I’ll have my little cut-off saw handy with blades and batteries. Chris

    New Tires

Hey friends, Long time no post. My ol’ 971 has needed wheels/tires forever, so I finally bit the bullet. I’ll spray everything down after I pull my pie weights off and let sit for a while. Any pointers? I’ve never swapped centers before, so we’ll see how it goes. These are a few years old, as...

    Jubilee

The owner said it had come with a loader, I didn t realize Ford built some tractors with this light position. Nice old rig and still at it. Chris

    Possible Tires

Thanks for the help. As long as the wheels can mount with the wheel center cupping around the axle. It would seem the mounting plate and weights would still fit? But I m sure you have more experience than me. Chris

    Possible Tires

Thanks all, I’ve owned the tractor for near 20 years (and my dad 25 yrs before that), but I’ve never had to find new (used) rear wheels/tires. Very low annual use on this tractor, but it runs pretty well. I love the SOS and need some serviceable, but not perfect rear wheels/tires. IA...

    Possible Tires

Thank you Sean, If the "holes" were evenly spaced around the wheel, a fella might hillbilly the Ford center in there. But they are not and you are correct, thank you very much. I will start seriously looking for some new wheels/tires as mine are quite rough. Thanks again. Chris

    Possible Tires

Thanks fellas, Here is a pic of my 971 from a couple of years back. I've got about 1,000# of wheel weights, so all good there. I am also attaching a pic of what the seller referred to as "waffle" wheels. They are only about 8 miles away, so I hope to measure them tomorrow and confirm a 25.5"...

    Snow storm, power outage

Dang, I never got to meet Larry and he was certainly one of the SOS gurus. He provided wonderful help and advise. I hope Chris (sounNdguy) is alright, but can t imagine he just quit posting unless there were serious life changes. Good luck with the power, we were w/o for 7 days the first...

    Possible Tires

I assume these would work? I would contact to confirm the 25.5" OD on the centers. I edited this post to get rid of the ridiculously long link. Chris This post was edited by NWMO 901 SOS on 12/20/2022 at 08:58 am.
