    You can add hyd oil when emgine is operating or not operating. I suggest if brakes don't operate correctly to bleed brakes with engine operating at idle speed. One bleeds these brakes similar to automotive brakes. Brake bleeder is located on inside top of each axle housing.

    Depends on brand of hyd oil. JD Hy-Gard hyd oil is tannish in color. Next time after tractor has set unused overnight before you start engine loosen hyd oil drain plug about 3 rounds then wait a few minutes to determine if any water droplets come out around plug threads.

    Look on rear of RH footrest next to trans case & you should see a dipstick knurled nut. Over filling trans can cause hyd oil to heat up. Check hyd oil after removing dipstick by placing dipstick nut against threads while engine is operating at idle speed

    Hyd cylinder pistons aren't exposed but the chrome plated cylinder rods are exposed whenever the rod is extended.

    According to no price listed one strap may not be available. I think for the price listed on the other strap I'd check tractor salvage yards.

    Have you considered install a resistor disc(item 5) that contains a small orifice between hose fittings to slow flow to cylinder??

    Spacechem JD part numbers such as E46844 when listed on A&I parts site which is owned by JD list JD part #s are identified with a "A" in front of part number such as A-E46844. Photo below was copied & pasted from JD's parts site.

    JD 2440 Price Advice

    Fixingfarmer Hyd reservoir by radiator was installed at the factory to help trans pump furnish in most cases an adequate supply of hyd oil. I can think of only one added hyd function that would require hyd oil level to be over full & that would be a very large oil capacity one way cylinder

    Hyd oil required is JD Hy-Gard or any hyd that meets specification of J20C. Hyd oil is checked with dipstick located on rear of RH footrest next to trans case.     JD 2440 Price Advice

    I suggest to check operation of hyd system after hyd oil has reached operating temperature. Also check condition & PH of engine coolant. That tractor has 2 options I like which are Roll-Gard & rack & pinion rear wheels. I agree it's not very pretty but it's probably worth $4K

    You're correct early 4010 had smaller rear axles. What I remember about 4430 was the planetaries were upgraded after serial # 040770

    What kind of seeder is this

    It appears to be an International end wheel drill that has been cut down in size & changed from pull-type to 3 pt hitch. That type drill fits food plot seeding better than larger grain drills

    4020 axle question

    Jim I disagree that 4010 & 4020 rear axles are different diameters due to those tractors utilizing same rear wheel wedges. A4384R & R32224 Inner seal part # AA5122R is identical also.
