    Left-turn motorcycle collisions

Watched one just happen near Emporia. The rider - older than me and should have known better was in a hurry. He was on his bike turning left and tried to do a slick quick left turn after a pickup went by and before the car following the pickup made him stop and put his foot down. Problem is...

Anyone have one? Are they decent compared to the New Holland 498s or comparable? Parts an issue?

12V Sprayer pump flow and pressure question

I bought a little tow behind John Deere sprayer. It has a 30 gallon barrel and 6' of booms (4 or 5 spray nozzels total) and a hand boom. It came with a 3 HP gas engine and a belt driven pump. Seller says the pump is ruined - looks like its 50 years old and cracked. Rather than mess with...

    Briggs Engine listing

I am looking for a listing of Briggs engines (or all small engine suppliers) that list their basic specs by model number. I keep finding a fairly large list that gives everything but the basic specs needed for swapping an engine, - namely shaft size and bolt pattern.

Best tool for this risky cut in metal

Don't go cheap on the tape. Buy a role of Gorilla or another higher quality tape that is designed for outdoor use. Tape both sides and it will probably still be shiny metal when you have to replace the pump again.

Replacement for 5 HP B&S horizonal shaft

They are a little more expensive but they aren't $150. Ebay has them for $56.00 with a 30 day return if it doesn't work - you get stuck with shipping. Granted they aren't the $10 and $20 replacement you see for Kohlers and most lawn mowers...

    Troybilt sickle mower

I just bought a really nice looking TroyBilt (Gardenway?) sickle mower. Still has the correct locking handles for the drive wheels. Bought it knowing the engine had issues but thought it was probably a bad carb. I have decided the engine has to go - it has oil - but when you pull the ripcord...

Replacement for 5 HP B&S horizonal shaft

I would look at Ebay. Lots of used gas tanks, a whole lot of Brigg's gas tanks. Usually between $10 and $25 with shipping.

Storm windows - who makes them?

I have looked up manufacturers for "special order" - the cost of the "storm window" is now around $120 to $200 - I can buy replacement windows for that price - just more work to install. Pretty much what DanielW said. I was hoping there was some secret stash of bought up inventory being...

    New tool for the wife

My mom was still using wringer washers through most of the 1980s - and she had about 60 yards of 4 wire clothesline (in true farm wife fashion the lines were #9 galvanized wire). I recall telling a person my mom did 32 loads on one Saturday. She commented - I don't think you can do that many...

    New tool for the wife

The front loads just don't get clothes clean. They don't use enough water to truly clean work cloths - and that is by design. They are supposed to be very "efficient" and use as little water was possible. If you work in an office and all you are really washing your cloths for is the get the...

    A bale handle?

That looks more like a meat hook than a bale hook. I never could use a bale hook worth a &^%#. We had string tied bales you picked up off the ground to load. The baler was always moving to fast to have a wagon hooked to the back of it. Between the steep slopes and the rough ground you'd...

Storm windows - who makes them?

I don't need a "carpenter" to hang a storm window. With a little help from the kids we put a nice roof on the that house last summer. Although I will say it was probably the easiest roof I've ever done. Only one layer of shingles and 20 year old sheeting that was still in perfect condition...

Storm windows - who makes them?

Back in 1996 when my wife and I first got married we bought a massive two story home that needed about 40 years of maintenance work done as the previous owners had quit spending money on the house some time in the 1960s. Being just married and broke instead of replacing the windows we bought...

    Replace tires?

It all depends on what you are doing. To me heavy loads and high speeds take a fast toll on a set of tires. But if you can keep at least keep speed to a minimum you might get away with a heavy load - and if you don't you are not going fast enough to really break something. My mom had a 1999...

    Straw price

The number of people putting up small square bales gets fewer every year. Getting straw that will make a square bale is also getting hard. Old conventional combines you popped the belt off the spreader and you had an instant windrow behind the combine. Rotary combines "grind" the straw stalks...

    SCAMMED

I posted a "want ad" on Nex Tech - seems to serve mostly people in Western Kansas - don't know how it is so regional. I was looking for a belt driven hydraulic pump for a Farmhand accumulator. Got a reply from a guy - he seemed "honest" but was from Tennessee - how he had spotted my ad with my...

Have Silverado w/ 5.3 - will I do OK with the new 2.7?

Have you had one with the 10 speed transmission? We have a fleet of about 30 pickups ranging from 2014 to 2023. So far we have had issues with 4 of the 10 speeds - 2 had issues from day 1 - others cropped up at 20K or 30K miles. After several trips to the dealership the only thing that fixed...
