    Horse Manure

This weed story is just an excuse for lazy people not to garden. If you have weeds get out your hoe, that is what it is for.

Not a tractor,,. Subaru Forester Question

The timing chains run in oil and do not have to be changed. The rattle at startup probably has nothing to do with timing chains. It is likely rod bearings starving for oil with that light oil they recommend. Probably all normal. What is not normal is my wife's 2014 Subaru with 100,000 miles...

Make a. Roll about 40 inches diameter and roll along fence line to gather . Reuse, repurpose, if it was new when attached to t posts it is not antique.

    Troy Built Horse Question...

One of mine had a 8 hp Briggs and the other had a 7 hp Kohler. They are both 4 speed models with different sized sheaves. They are old. I have not changed speeds or encountered much belt slippage. It makes sense that the 2 belt version could transmit more horsepower but is it desirable? It is...

    Condenser question

I don't believe good points are being made anymore. Old points found in magnetos have a thick piece of contact material (tungsten?) bonded on. These can be refaced. To my knowledge all new points are plated, once the plating burns, wears they are done.

New tractor without DEF as a selling point?

Just another good reason to buy a yesterdays tractor. That is what we are all about here. Why anyone would subject themselves to this BS is beyond me.

    Sowing my oats

I planted oats for many years, never used treated seed. Barley seed would be treated. Second generation seed always produced better than seed brought in from a different place (acclimated).

    Newly planted oats

Out here on the west coast oats were commonly planted in the fall. I have seen lush crops fed off by cattle in February yet come back to make a bountiful harvest in June, July and August. I have seen oats planted in soil moisture under dryland conditions in April produce a good crop.

I guess we lost the tractor vet

I guess we lost the tractor vet . He has not posted since December 22. I guess he can't deal with the new format. Too bad, I used to enjoy reading his posts.

350 u power steering reassembled but not working

I have given up on my 350. I had to rebuild a gear tooth in the steering box. Built up with 7018 and fitted. All bushings and seals were good. Worked on hydraulic feed. Still cannot steer on ground. I am only getting 500 psi on hydraulics. I have another pump but decided to give up and bought a...

    Needing new plowshares

I have welded a piece of springtooth on to extend the points. Plowed a lot of ground that way along with graphite paint on the rusty moldboards.

420c is it a bad idea?

Look for tractor with good undercarriage. Stay away from any powershift transmission, manual only. I would not limit search to JD, many other brands. Forget dealers, parts are available on Internet for most anything.

    Farm Bookkeeping program

I used Quicken for many years. In 2020 Quicken let me down. Going to the bank to get data hopelessly screwed up. Caused me not to file on time. I won't use a Windows computer, I won't use Mac any more. No Quicken for Chromebook. I am hosed. Trying QuickBooks online but turned into a mess

    Tuesday Harvester

A lot of flax was produced here WW2 period. Much was combined with AC 60s with draper feed and rubber covered cylinder bars. Also a flax roller was incorporated ahead of cylinder I believe.
