    Signs of the times 5/19

My actual house is 6-700 feet back from the road, hidden in the trees. But,behind me,300 feet through the trees,is another road that passes by.No connection to my land. That's where the GPS sends most people. That road is closer to my home than the actual road I'm on.Evidently not all GPS services...

    Left-turn motorcycle collisions

I've ridden all my life, and I think I am going to give it up.I lost a bike in a fire and went out and bought the twin to it right off.I have ridden it 4 miles in 4 years. For some reason the close calls have been coming to mind more frequently lately.I have 5 bikes, and saw that the 71 Honda I...

    Battery weed eater

They have their place, but their place seems to be getting bigger.I bought a cheapo B&D trimmer for a 95 year old lady my wife takes care of.Batteries were supposed to last X amount of minutes, much longer than she figured she could work. She called to tell me the batteries were wearing out too...

    Ear Worm 5/14

That song was so great it seems like it was covered by everybody.Gene Autry,Lefty Frizzell,Merle Haggard,Doc Watson, right off the top of my head.Billy Strings did a real nice cover of it just recently. Never heard a butchered version of it either.

Never underestimate what can be used as a tool lol

A Kubota valve guide driver is a perfect tool to drive kingpins out of Model A Fords. The kingpins are hollow, and drive upwards. That Kubota tool is tough too. Even though I have a barrel bung tool,I still take out most barrel bungs with two big screwdrivers.

440i with 71 loader and pippen backhoe

The gray stuff in the radiator sounds like the stop leak that comes in a tube.Using too much or not getting the tractor hot enough after you dump it in will let it settle into the bottom. The bucket tilting down sounds like a packing on the end of one of the rods is leaking, letting the juice...

    Simpson analog multi meters?

I have a pretty good Fluke that I use on modern car work.It is useless on old car stuff, and on some old tractors.Model A Fords will make the Fluke go wonky.I lost a nice old Simpson in a fire, but intercepted this one on it's way to a dumpster at an estate cleanout.I haven't looked at it,the...

    Whats this used for exactly

I was told that was the place to hook the top link to when using a 3 PTH harrow,York rake, rotory mower, etc.Anything that just needed to be just hung, not pressured downward. If you went into a dip and the harrow hung up on the little bank you just went over it had a little give instead of trying...

Welding on the Amazing Race tonight

I had a year of welding in a vo-tech school I went to in 1974. One test was to weld up a 6X6 cube, with a pipe nipple in it.Then they would submerge it in a test tank full of water. Then it was pressurized to a certain PSI,(I don't remember how much). It was a pass-fail test, and mine passed.I still...

    What is this tool?

I have a couple of those I bought in the mid 70's while I was still working on cars.I bought them for adjusting carburators on running engines.Sometimes you could just hold the knurled part and turn it,Or,you could just use a socket and extension to reach under the bosses and protrusions on the...

    Common sign around here

These signs used to be as common as dirt around here.Years ago I used them to patch floors in my cars.I kept this one from a shed I tore down for somebody in the late 70's.It's probably been in this shed in my yard for 25 or 30 years.

    Cub Lo-boy 154

Because it's a starter-generator.When you hit the switch it spins, and when it starts and you let go of the switch. Then that contact in the regulator releases when the power to it is killed. That regulator does more than one job.It is a special regulator.I've never really thought too much of the...

    Cub Lo-boy 154

That situation gets created in those things from people in the past running a low battery, and trying to start it with a battery charger.A little arcing eats away at those contacts, and when the tractor finally gets a good battery the higher juice tends to arc through the bad stuff, and at some...

    The Scrap Metal Art Thread

An old feller near me worked at his town dump, when somebody threw away a little welder he started making things like this. The main body of this centipede is a Fisher snowplow spring. The leaves and such are cutouts from a metal sign shop.

    1978 IHC Grain Truck

I had an International with a Perkins in it.It had been used to deliver dairy products to stores,(not milk) they had different bodied trucks for that.I bought it to haul a tag trailer around instead of using a ton truck. It wasn't heavy enough to put a dump body on.A friend had a Transtar with...

COUNTRY CLASSIC REWIND - PICKIN' & GRINNIN'

Heard Roy doing,Thank God And Greyhound a few weeks ago on the radio.Had some uncles that were dedicated beer drinkers and weekend musicians. I remember them belting that one out many Saturday afternoons. To me,Roy always looked the same, all of his life.

Signs I picked out of the dump

Colin,The only cruise night I go to now is at Liars Paradise in Nottingham on Tuesday nights. The only reason is because I only have the Model A's now.You have some really nice ones near you.Goldenrod,MoJo's,then some others around Manchester. The one at the Candia Irving is great, but too crowded...

Signs I picked out of the dump

AAA sign I got out of the dump many years ago.We were poking around the iron pile, and I watched my friend walk on this a half dozen times before I finally said,if you ain't gonna pick that up get out of the way and let me have it.It had the remains of a picture of an ear of corn and a...

    Methods of broken tap removal

A few years ago I had a machine for removing broken taps.I believe it was called a Buzztap. The chuck,or head, had to be used in a drill press or milling machine. It used air,and possibly water in the operation.I believe it was some kind of EDM process. It had little sacrificial wires that did the...
