    1974 5000 8spd PTO leak

Oil is leaking out around my PTO shaft. According to what I can tell I just need to remove the bearing retainer (part 48) and the oil seal is right there. I won't need to remove the PTO output shaft. Is that correct? One thing that doesn't show is there is a retaining clip inside the bearing...

    Bern and Sean Ford 5000

Good afternoon. I'm having a problem with my 1974 Ford 5000 diesel. This is the one that I put a new head gasket on and repainted. Here's my problem. It is overheating. Now to eliminate the head gasket being the wrong one or on the wrong way I know for a fact that's not it. I also had the old...

    Counterweight Blue

The Ford 5000 that I have been repainting had calcium chloride in the tires. Couple weeks ago when I went out to my shop one of the valve steams gave out and shot the calcium chloride all over. I took it down to my tire guy today and got a new tube put in it and now they use counterweight blue...

    Ford 5000 tachometer.

I bought a aftermarket instrument cluster for my 1974 Ford 5000 diesel. It is a generator system. I hooked up the instrument cluster and everything works great except for the tachometer reads way too fast. Is there some type of gearing/calibration that can be adjusted? Or is it just a crap shoot...

    Ford 5000 rear wheel weights

I have a 1974 Ford 5000 (5100) with standard non-adjustable 30 inch rear rims. I am trying to find the correct rear wheel weights. A possible original Ford parts number could be C7NN1A002B. I have also heard there is a starter weight but the parts diagram doesn't show that. I am confused...

    1974 Ford 5000

Is there a primer I can use on the cast iron body of the tractor I won't need to sand? I removed all the grease, oil and dirt. I am going over EVERYTHING with a wire wheel. Before I put on any paint I will wipe it down with acetone and then a tack cloth. Not looking for a show tractor or a...

    1974 Ford 5000 paint

Would the Ford blue for a 1974 5000 be the Ford imperial blue? I'm not necessarily trying to get an exact match for show quality and I know there were different Ford shades of blue but I was just wondering if imperial blue would be pretty close. Also are the fenders and rims white or are they...

I need to replace the head gasket on my Ford 5000 diesel. I ordered a head gasket from Messick's and from a well-known tractor parts distributor that you are all familiar with but I'm not going to mention the name. The quality difference between the two head gaskets are night and day...

    4DLT Battery update

Well I put the new 4DLT battery in the Ford 5000 diesel. I had a brand new starter so I put it on to because the old one just seemed to drag a little and not turn the engine over very fast. I also made up all new battery cables. Turning over great and charging fine
