farm jack -- purpose of top part ??

Normally turned upright so it doesn't catch anything. A fellow I worked for in the mid 70's used it to crunch the hood of his truck as he was jacking and watching the bumper!

JD 2440 radiator problem. Have a 2440 serial # 341288T...so one of "newer" ones. had to get new radiator....

I will be about the fifth one to add a sad radiator story. I bought one on line and it wasn't right. They wouldn't take it back, would only replace it. I was stuck. Never again. So a couple of years ago when I wanted a new radiator for my 2520, I contacted my JD dealer. As I recall, the only one...

    "what is the part number?"

Whenever I need parts I do all of the research I possibly can. I usually have a part number. The parts guys all appreciate it. It saves time. One of the dealers, which adds a surcharge onto the OEM list price, at least discounts me back down to the list price because of the time I save them. (I...

    Introduction

Welcome. Some years ago there was a fellow on here from Alaska. If I remember correctly, he was down along the coast cutting oats with an old Gleaner combine. Participants here, from anywhere other than the "lower 48" are most interesting. Is Delta Junction on the Alcan highway?

What gleaners had the a/c 262

I think the C series, and the very early F. Don't know about the G.

    Wd 45 mounted corn picker.

And the OEM WD45 curved shift lever was tapered, from large at the base to smaller at the top, with a little ball at the top to hold the rubber push-on knob on. If you buy an OEM replacement lever it will be the same diameter all the way, with a hard plastic and metal insert to be pressed on the...

    3010 Frame Part

I agree. I can't imagine what they're doing to break those things. I would certainly replace it rather than try to fix it. Even with the coupling, alignment is critical.

    2024.04.21 Tractor Pics

Yes, I doubt there is any "after" picture of that wheatland model. Those type of cribs leave me wondering how they were filled. I don't see any holes in the roof.

    Electric motor issue

My single phase motors require capacitors and starting switches. My bigger motors have multiple capacitors. Some for starting, some for running. Some of my bigger motors have a relay which the starting switch activates. This takes the load off the switch so it will last. The biggest motors here...

    Electric motor issue

Motors that size may have only one capacitor. Usually in an obvious housing. Hopefully you can find a number on it. Or find a shop who knows what they're doing and can get you a correct replacement. The centrifugal starting switch should be on the dead end of the motor. Take the end housing off...

    Are these correct decals?

They look OK, just not applied correctly.

    Electric motor issue

I imagine you're single phase out there. Which means your motors have centrifugal starting switches, starting, AND running capacitors.

    batwing mower

I have a Bush Hog, I think 2515? They confusingly made several different levels of the same size. 2515, 2615, 2715, if I'm remembering correctly??? I've had no issues. The main thing which attracts me is a clean, sloped deck, which makes cleaning easier.

    Tractor Size v Implement Size

It all depends............. When I bought a 15 foot bat wing I got a 540 RPM version on purpose. I didn't necessarily have the correct tractor to run it at the time, but hoped I would someday, and happily, that has happened. At the time, I ran it with a 200+ HP tractor. I had to adapt the large...

    Allis Chalmers oil filter

For many years the handy local auto supply had Wix, and of course NAPA had the same line. I used both. I started finding out a couple of years ago that I could get better prices elsewhere, namely John Deere and Fleetguard. It appears that NAPA may be pricing themselves right out of the market.

    Batteries

I've replaced two batteries so far this spring. My old IH gas dump truck usually sits for long periods of time. But I had been using it lately. I was surprised when it was totally dead. Not a click, nothing! I needed to move it, so hooked up the charger. The needle on the charger didn't even...
