1952 8N Ford Pops Oil Filter Canister Lid after Overhaul

One other thing you may wish to verify is removing the oil line that goes into the governor to verify you have good oil flow. Courtesy of JMOR

dist, cap/rotor real tight - 8N front mount

First question comes to mind is do you have the rotor properly indexed with the shaft? Barring that, I would suspect ill fitting, poor quality aftermarket parts.

    Long sleep

I've heard of Australian Fords but this is my first time seeing one :-)

    Old tires

Interesting info on the Ford dynasty but I think Alan Mulally would disagree with you as to the current CEO :-)

    pto shaft wore out?

The splines and key hole in your photo actually look quite good for a 60 year old tractor. The purpose of the pin is to keep the coupler from sliding off the shaft - The splines carry the torsional load. You should find out what is bending the pin. First thing I would check is to make sure...

Do I need to remove bearing retainer when changing axle seal

No - Same bolts that hold the axle seal assembly also hold the axle bearing retainer but you don't necessarily have to pull the bearing retainer out. Try not to move it around so as to prevent any sealer that may be applied from breaking loose. [b:54a484370c][i:54a484370c]Is it possible to...

What kind of dual range/overdrive is this?

For all the reasons mentioned above, they are not in that much of a demand. Likely better off to let sleeping dogs lie.

    resistor between coil and switch?

Okay - I see that now. It's a rather long string and I missed that part. I'm glad some of us were paying attention :-)

    resistor between coil and switch?

I really, really really, want to understand how a worn distributor will let the smoke out the resistor?

    8N paint colors...

The bracket is a mount for tail light, work light or both. Nice tires - What size are they?

    8N paint colors...

You ask that after all the work you went through to get yours off :-) A better solution would be never-seize as grease will displace over time. If you don't have never-seize available, I'm told milk of magnesia will provide the same results.
